Treating bare soil or wasteland: controlling runoff
On an earthen path, an unstabilized track, or wasteland to be prepared, the issue is the opposite of that presented by the two previous surfaces.
The main risk is no longer missing a plant, but losing product through runoff onto the soil. Glyphosate that reaches the soil instead of the foliage quickly binds to soil particles and becomes inactive. Excess spray solution running down a stem onto the ground is therefore wasted product, with no additional benefit for the treatment.
Aim for the point of shine on the foliage, without ever exceeding this threshold. The leaf should look evenly wet and slightly glossy. As soon as droplets form and begin to run, you have exceeded the useful amount, and the rest of the applied volume is going directly into the soil.
Low, consistent pressure helps limit this risk by delivering medium-sized droplets that adhere to the foliage instead of saturating it all at once. Pressure that is too low produces the opposite effect, with large droplets that run off immediately.
On wasteland intended to be turned over, remember that this same soil will quickly deactivate any excess product. Avoiding drift toward borders, whatever the surface
